Our fabric CSM explained
Built for the SEA
CSM is a synthetic rubber with an unmatched record on the water and for four decades of proven performance in inflatable boats, RIBs, lifeboats and tenders. Where extreme conditions demand uncompromising material. Originally formulated to resist the harshest natural and man-made environments: UV radiation, saltwater, oil, petrol, heat - it has formed the outer armour of Achilles inflatable boats for over forty years.
CSM is still CSM.
From the beginning, Achilles has always used CSM from DuPont with the brand name Hypalon®. DuPont stopped producing Chlorosulphon polyethylene (CSM) in 2010 so that the Hypalon® brand no longer exists. But Achilles still uses Chlorosulphon polyethylene (CSM) manufactured to the same demanding specifications as Hypalon®.
Four layers, one purpose
The fabric is engineered as a laminated system. Each layer performs a distinct function - and together they create material that is simultaneously tough on the outside, airtight on the inside, and structurally rigid in between.
The dual chloroprene layers are especially critical: chloroprene has over 75 years of proven airtightness in demanding industrial seals and diaphragms. Here it keeps your inflatable boat inflated, longer.

CSM fabric produced specifically for use in inflatable boats and is available in various colours and designs including the widely sold T10 Series (1100dtex) for recreational boats and T15 Series (1670dtex) for larger professional boats such as tenders and lifeboats. Both types of CSM fabric versions are ISO 6185-3:2014 certified. With this you can be sure that the CSM rubberized fabric from Achilles meets the applicable safety standards.
